Ring size guide

Wrap a strip of paper around your finger, mark where it meets, and measure the length in millimetres.

That number is your finger's circumference. Enter it in the size finder further down and we will show your size. If you would rather use a ring you already own, there is a second method below.

• Measure the finger you will wear the ring on. Your left and right hand can differ by a size.
• Measure in the evening, when fingers are at their largest. Cold fingers read too small.
• You need a strip of paper or a piece of string (not stretchy), a pen, and a ruler with a millimetre side.

   Wrap the strip round your finger

   Cut a strip of paper about 1 cm wide and 15 cm long, or use a piece of string. Wrap it once around the base of your finger, snug but not tight.

2. Step 2

   Mark where it meets

   Hold the strip in place and draw a line with a pen where the end overlaps the strip.

3. Step 3

   Measure the length

   Unwrap the strip, lay it flat and measure from the end to your mark, in millimetres. If it reads 58 mm, that is your finger's circumference.

Check the fit: the ring has to pass over your knuckle. If your knuckle is clearly larger than the base of your finger, measure round the knuckle instead.

   Lay the ring flat on a ruler

   Choose a ring that fits the finger you are buying for. Lay it flat so you are looking down through the hole.

2. Step 2

   Measure across the inside

   Measure from one inner edge to the opposite inner edge, across the widest part. Do not include the band itself. This is the inner diameter, in millimetres.

Measure the inside, not the outside. The outer edge adds the thickness of the band and gives a size that is too big. The size finder converts diameter to circumference for you.

Choose what you measured, enter the number, and the matching size is picked out in the chart.

• Do not pull the strip tight or use a stretchy one. Both give a number that is too small.
• Measure two or three times and use the average.
• Between two sizes? Choose the larger one.
• Wide bands (6 mm and over) fit tighter than thin ones. If you are choosing one, consider going up half a size.
• Buying as a gift? Measure a ring the person already wears on the same finger.
